Day 1193: Make 'em Laugh

Sort of by accident, a lot of what we ended up seeing on our trip to Walt Disney World in January occurred simply because we happened to be walking by at the time. While I've seen much of the entertainment around World Showcase, Frank hadn't, so when we would hear something I'd be sure to make us stop so she could experience it too. 

Of course, that led to some serious comedy throughout the entire vlog, and really, this is another one of those times were I sort of start to remember just why I love vlogging and bringing the camera with me everywhere I go at Disney. I mean, there just aren't words to explain how wonderful Frank trying her first piece of raw fish was, and when in World Showcase you really can't find something more entertaining than any of the spectacular music or performing groups. 

Also, I've really been discovering some new favorite places to watch IllumiNations over the past few trips, and I've probably seen it a record number of times too. On this particular night we made it a point to stop and wait for the show in Japan, although if you want to stand up on the balcony you'll want to get there rather early, because it's become quite the hotspot for photographers and viographers (myself included). We ended up eating at Tokyo Dining and then just waited up there though, so things worked out rather well. 

All in all, this particular vlog was a part two, and we spent almost the entire day in World Showcase, and the entire day at Epcot. I hear a lot of people talk about Epcot as a park hardly worth visiting, but for me, that's absolutely not the case. I could probably spend the rest of my life at Epcot and still not spend enough time there. I mean, there's a lot of food to try there after all.

Day 1192: Disney By the Numbers: Epcot

Remember back in 2013 when I did a post about how long it would take you to do everything at Magic Kingdom? If you don't, you can check it out HERE, but for those of you that do, you also might remember a couple of other things. Most notably, there's the amount of time it took to figure all that out, and then also just how much fun I had with that project. To date it's one of my favorite blog posts. 

Well, I figured that it's been almost three years now and that maybe it's about time to expand on that idea of "Disney By the Numbers." For this first one I'm keeping it simple (and learning how to use a new online graphic creator I was told about recently) with some numerals representative of Epcot. 

While the graphics definitely take a while to make, I kind of like the idea of a series of posts like this, so expect more Disney By the Numbers in the future!

Day 1191: Randomly Generated

I'm always searching for a good blog post topic, and every once and a while, when I have really serious writer's block, I'll head over to a blog topic generator to see if it'll spark any ideas. Plenty of blog posts have been created this way, although I usually don't use the exact topic I'm given. It's more often a play on some topic, or something that was inspired by one of these topics. 

Well, needless to say, things can get pretty interesting on these websites, so I thought I'd share a few of my favorite randomly generated blog post topics that involve Disney: 

I feel like this one is kind of true for every topic, but while Wikipedia can be a useful starting source for basic information, it's not about to tell you everything you might ever need to know about Spaceship Earth or Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. 

I don't even think this one needs a further explanation because we all know the world would end without Disney...

And then things got interesting. Then again, maybe Darth Vader's Guide to Disney wouldn't be all that bad after all. I mean, he has been to Disneyland! 

And then there was this gem. So ironic. 

But my all time favorite blog post topic suggestion I've found seems both improbable and also really interesting all at the same time, and maybe once I'm finally caught up on Game of Thrones a blog post on this exact topic will appear here on Everyday Disney.

Day 1190: What Would Walt Think?

Aside from the well-known rumor that Walt Disney is frozen underneath Pirates of the Caribbean (spoiler alert - he's not), one of the most frequent questions I get is "what do you think Walt Disney would think of that?" 

It's really a harmless question, and often enough, actually a pretty good one. Obviously, the Epcot we see today is drastically different from the one Walt is said to have mapped out on the ceiling of his hospital room, and Disney movies like Frozen are a far cry from The Jungle Book, but at the same time, I really try to avoid answering this question for one very good reason: 

We live in a different world from Walt Disney. 

I'm sure, in fact I know, there are people alive that could probably give you an idea of what Walt would have thought of something modern. After all, there are still a handful of legends alive that knew him well, and they'd be your best bet for an accurate answer. But truth be told, we aren't those people, and we never knew Walt personally, so trying to figure out what he would have thought of Tangled is sort of trying to figure out what Abraham Lincoln would have thought of Hawaii. Likewise, attempting to reason what his opinion on Mission SPACE might be is like wondering what he would think of iPhones, and while I'm sure there are elements of the Disney parks and films that he would cock his head at, I'm not sure he'd know what to do with half of what we have now. Other than sit in astonishment, at least. 

I think you get the point though, about how our reality is a far cry from the one Walt was familiar with, although in the end if you really want to know what I believe he would think about a lot of this, it's as follows: he'd be proud. We may not be fans of everything at Epcot that's replaced classic attractions, or of the latest release from Walt Disney Pictures, but I do know that Walt would have loved to see the company continuing to move forward this long after Disney. And that's what we should always remember - that things will continue to keep moving forward, because that's what it was all originally about anyway.

Day 1189: Walt and Waffles

I really need to invest some time into getting more pictures of Mickey Waffles so I don't have to use the same ones all the time. I mean really, I eat Mickey Waffles all the time! Why don't I have more pictures of them? 

Regardless of that situation, there was a sizable amount of Disney lately, although this blog post probably won't be entirely long. One of my friends is an RA, and he just also happens to be a huge Disney fan. So for his floor program, he decided to do Walt and Waffles as a theme, asking if he could borrow my waffle irons to help with the job. Of course I agreed, because the world needs more Mickey Waffles, and so we spent an hour or so in the basement of one of the residence halls making Mickey Waffles and watching a documentary on Walt Disney. 

I have to give him some credit too, because putting up with me during a documentary on Walt Disney isn't exactly the easiest thing to do. I tend to know a bunch of random stories outside of the film, which leads to me telling said stories during the film. Honestly, with so much random Disney knowledge in my head, it's hard to survive and not tell others about the spectacular Walt Disney! 

After our waffles, we ended up watching one of the live-action Scooby-Doo movies, but that's beside the point and probably not nearly as interesting in regards to this blog as the Walt and Waffles event was. There could have been more people, but for some last minute planning, I have to say that it went pretty well!

Day 1188: The Best Part

Yes, the above picture is of my setup in my college library not long ago, but that's beside the point. We're here to talk about blogging, and why, while usually drastically behind on my blog, I really love what I do. Between Everyday Disney and my YouTube videos, as well as being a full time college student, I keep myself busy in more ways than one, but the best part about being a Disney blogger, especially one that writes something like this, is that I not only have the freedom to do my work at my own pace and my own way, but I get to explore and participate in what I love while doing it.

I mean, where some of my fellow students spend their free time doing things they might have to do, or, let's be honest, just watching Netflix all day, I get to go to movies under the premise that it's so I can blog about them. When I'm in the Disney parks, my blog has forced me to explore new things, some of which I'd never even heard of, and some of which have become some of my new favorite activities while I'm there. I get to meet new people, see new sights, and am constantly taking pictures and improving my writing as we go. Plus, it's really great to have something on the side to devote my time to, just so I'm not spending all my time in classes and doing homework. It's almost like a break from the daily grind, and that's usually a huge relief during the busy semesters at college.

I love blogging, even when I get behind and end up writing 20 posts in one day to try and catch up, and I'm always excited to see where my blog will take me in the future.

Day 1187: How Did It Start?

If you've been around for a while, you'll know already that my love of Disney really took off when I was around 4 years old and formed some of my earliest memories during the Millennium Celebration at Epcot. If you haven't heard that story, you can learn all about it right here in this video: 

But really, my relationship with Disney goes even further back. I took my very first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 15 months old, and I went on another trip a year later. In fact, previous to the Millennium, I went a few times, visiting in October of 1996 and 97, and November of 98. My last trips before the Millennium, and really my first experiences with IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, would have been in March and November of 99. I wouldn't be back until a year later in 2000, but by that point it really wouldn't matter anyway. My love of Disney was solidified. 

Of course, there's not a ton I remember from the early days, but I do have quite the fond memories of places like the Imagination Pavilion, especially the music squares in Imageworks, the Boneyard, and the Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area. There was also the car outside the Sci-Fi, Spaceship Earth in general, and the pool at Old Key West. Really, you name it and I probably spent a good amount of time there. 

So really, my love of Disney started as typically as you can imagine. My parents loved going to WDW and took me along, and as I grew older it was just something I was used to. Disney became a part of my life just like my house or school did, and even from an early age I was quick to call it home. 

In other words, yes, my love of Disney really did start with the Millennium Celebration because that's what I can remember best, but the foundation was already there, just waiting for me to build upon as we entered a new millennium.
