Day 1286: Off We Go

The above view was pretty much my view for endless hours on our trip to Colorado...only instead of a rest stop, it was actually just the road and the occasional changing landscape. Our first day consisted of around nine and a half hours of driving from Green Bay, Wisconsin out to Lincoln, Nebraska. It seemed like forever after we stopped for gas for the first time, and my legs cramped something fierce. After that first day, however, the driving seemed to get better. Where a two hour drive once seemed excessive, now it almost feels like just a few minutes.

Our second day was the third longest driving day, from Lincoln out to Colorado Springs. It took about eight hours, and aside from a thirteen hour driving day back towards Missouri at the end of the trip, the longest we drove in one sitting was three hours. Much less than the original nine.

The question, however, is how one keeps interested [and awake] during such long drives? It was just the two of us in the car, which was sort of nice because it gave us more space, so we looked both inside and outside the car for entertainment. As fans of musicals, we listened to a whole list of soundtracks, including Hamilton, Hercules, Chicago, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hairspray, and Finding Neverland, among many, many others.

Looking out the windows, we kept a track of the various Disney references that popped up throughout the trip, yellow bugs we saw, and, of course, played the license plate game. We almost won the license plate game too, only missing Connecticut and Rhode Island. We also, of course, played a few good old rounds of "I Spy," a classic on long road trips like this.

Let me know how you like to pass the time on long trips in the comments below!

Day 1172: The Salmon Run

Disney had all kinds of awesome computer games back in the day, and by far one of my all time favorites was Brother Bear. I don't know if being a bear is actually more fun than being a human, but based on the adventures in this game, I kind of want to be a bear!

I don't remember it all perfectly, but I do remember that there were two parts of the game that were simply the best: the Salmon Run and the Sledding. Since I don't actually have the game anymore, at least not on a computer I can play, here's a couple of videos from YouTube to give you an idea of the ins and outs of this epic adventure:

Pretty awesome, right? Gosh, I think I'm going to have to go find my old disc and try to install it on my computer because the want to play this is so real right now!

After all, the salmon aren't going to catch themselves!

Have a magical day!

Day 1165: No More Snow

[Luckily], I took this picture earlier in the semester, but it certainly is still winter, and I feel like I blog about it every couple of days. However, as we reach the end of the snow, it seems, I thought we might remember some of our favorite snow-capped moments from Disney movies!

The one that always stands out to me is from 101 Dalmatians, when little Lucky is so darn cold that everything has froze, including his tail, nose, ears, and toes! I can relate, because it's basically my experience going to class every morning.

And here we have the most accurate representation of me ice skating (or walking in winter in general) that there ever has been or will be. On the left you see expectations for what it'll be like walking over ice...and on the right is the hard reality.

Next up we have the expression of everyone the entire winter through. The only time it changes is for the occasional really beautiful snowfall or the first snowfall of the year. Then we just get salty.

Seriously though, we usually don't look like this

And now, because of course there couldn't be a post about winter in Disney movies without a little Frozen, have some Elsa, whom I've asked multiple times to help me stop the winter and she refuses to do so.

Oh well, I guess instead I'll just have to continue trying to figure out how to make this work in my backyard:

Have a magical day!

Day 994: Song of the Day

I'm always trying to find new ways to bring little bits of Disney into my daily routine. After all, that's what this blog is all about! Well, I'm happy to say that I've found yet another way for Disney to make an appearance, and this time it occurs pretty much every morning on my walk to class! This year, I'm lucky enough to not start any of my classes until, at the earliest, 10 each morning. It provides a little extra time to get work done, whether it is filming a video, working for one of my on-campus jobs, or catching up on homework on practicing, AND means that I can take my time heading to my first class of the day.

To make life more interesting, I've started doing #DisneySongOfTheDay, in which I play a different Disney song everyday, take a screenshot of it on my phone, and then post it on Twitter with the hashtag! So far it's been a ton of fun picking various songs, and it's an awesome way to go through the music library on my phone!

Here's a few of the songs I've included so far:

I would love to see some others adopting the Disney Song of the Day into their routine too! I throw in some earbuds and listen on my two-three minute walk to class, but maybe you listen during your drive home, while making dinner, working on homework, or even taking a shower! Let me know some of your favorite Disney songs in the comments below too!

Have a magical day!
