Day 754: Little Things: College Edition

I've done posts under the idea of "Little Things" before, but now just felt like the right time to do another volume of it, especially since there have been multiple little things in my life that have reminded me of Disney over the past couple of days since returning to SNC! And after all...

Pine Trees

We all know and love the orange scent that's pumped into Soarin', but I feel like sometimes we forget about the wonderful Pine Tree that's also part of that attraction. When I returned to SNC, I was the first one back in the dorm room, meaning that everything was pulled away from the heaters, a vacuum was sitting in the middle of the floor, and everything was unplugged. In the midst of plugging everything back in, I happened to find our wallflower airfreshener that had been unplugged before we left. Of course, after a while you don't really notice the smell anymore, but there was a significant amount left in the thing, so I just plugged it back in. I knew exactly what scent it was, but when the pine tree wafted into my back room a few minutes later, I could only think of one thing: Soarin'.

Melvin 

He's got a new look for a new semester! That's right, Melvin has changed out of his holiday attire and travel clothes in favor of an Up inspired outfit, complete with bow tie and balloons. Originally he was going to have glasses too, but it just wasn't working out well, and he looks adorable enough with his current outfit.

Keurig 

"Shovell sure brought life to this home!"

And that's what I said the other day, which immediately reminded me of one Carousel of Progress. After all, "Thomas Edison sure brought life to this home!" You see, my wonderful best friend, for her birthday, got a Keurig, which she brought back to SNC. It provides us with endless entertainment, hot water, tea, and coffee, so it's definitely the new life of this dorm room.


I have this distinct feeling that there was something else that should be going on this post, but I guess it'll just end up on the next one now. Unless I'm thinking of my SNC-Caf made Butterfinger Cupcake. That's entirely possible. Those cupcakes are amazing.

Day 739: Melvin's Big Adventure

You all already know about our pet from Room 319, Melvin the Gerbil, who came home with me over Winter Break. Well, Melvin, a while back, dressed as a tourist, and we all decided that he needed to come on a grand adventure to Walt Disney World. So I created a Travel Sized Melvin, who went everywhere I did!

On our last full day, Melvin joined us for a very special SnapChat journey that took him all around World Showcase, and for your convenience, here's the whole story! 

As you can see, we had quite the adventure. Not pictured are the United Kingdom, where we did some maze racing, and Canada, which we visited the following day. Things got a bit too dark for Melvin to be taking pictures all the time! 

Eating around the world left us pretty stuffed too! Gosh though, it's one of my favorite things to do, and I'm glad Ashley and Megan got to spend more time in World Showcase than we got in June! 

Don't worry, I've already had requests for Melvin to come along to Disneyland, so he'll be making more appearances in the future!

Tuesday, July 15, 2014: Day 561: Basically Famous

Does it really surprise you that my favorite post from July comes from one of the best birthday's I've ever had, all of which is due to one particular Irish man who happens to play my favorite character on my favorite television show? Yeah, it shouldn't surprise you in the least. My tweet from Colin O'Donoghue is framed, has been shared multiple times over various social media and has been talked about many, many times since July here on Everyday Disney. I'm still reminded of it from time to time (when I'm not already smiling at it sitting on my shelf at college), as there are STILL people favoriting the tweet. Creepers.

Saturday, August 30, 2014: Day 607: The Facebook Tradition

Maybe it's because I'm on the brink of another trip, and that means that after six months my Facebook will once again change, or maybe it's because it's just one of those weird traditions I have that I absolutely love, but the blog post in August on the Facebook Tradition is definitely one of my favorites, more because of the topic than the post itself. It's also one of the topics that I made up in October or something because I was so far behind and the idea for the post just suddenly hit me. 

Now I'm just thinking about what my new cover photo and profile picture will be. 

Wednesday, September 24, 2014: Day 632: Seagulls

Just as it's not everyday that Colin O'Donoghue tweets you Happy Birthday, it's not everyday you make Jennifer Morrison crave a churro. September was an especially good month for me in the world of Tweet Collecting, with one retweet (and instagram repost!) from Jennifer Morrison and two favorites from her during #101Smiles. I can't even express how much happiness that brought me, and even now it helps get me through the day...when I'm not craving churros. 

Thursday, October 23, 2014: Day 661: A Blue Star Candle

Here we have yet another Once Upon A Time themed posted, and you know, I'm sort of sensing a theme here. Anyway, this one happened to be a huge project for me one evening, clocking in at over two hours of work. So maybe it wasn't the best idea to do the entire Once Upon A Time 30-Day Challenge in one blog post, but I have to say, it's pretty impressive looking back now. Plus, it was Emma Swan's birthday! I felt like I needed to celebrate! 

Monday, November 10, 2014: Day 679: Colors of Disney

This is one of the more fun blog posts I've done this year, if you ask me, and I'm definitely planning on doing a new edition of these color palettes once I return in January with new Instagram pictures. Plus, it'll fit right in with the theme for 2015 (still secret for everyone except a few inside people!). I love Instagram pictures, and I love color, and gosh, I just can't even express how much fun I had with this! 

Thursday, December 4, 2014: Day 703: The Door of Encouragement 

Throughout my college career so far, I've been blessed to have extremely wonderful roommates, and I can't wait to see what the next semester and upcoming years have. Of course, I'm also a huge fan of our Door of Encouragement, filled with inspiration and color to inspire us when we need it most. Plus, I'm pretty excited about the new additions that will be coming in the second half of the year, and I bet I'll have to share a new picture of the door when it's full at the end of the year! 

Thursday, October 30, 2014: Day 668: Melvin

And now it's time for the first of two bonus posts! Melvin has been a great addition to our college lives, and you know what? Mevlin's going on a really big adventure this January, since he's home with me for J-Term. Plus, you have to admit that his little costumes have been pretty adorable. Although I'm a huge fan of all of them, I do think this Captain Hook one was my favorite, more because of the boat in the back and that hat than the fact that he was Captain Hook. Just wait until this next semester - Melvin's got plenty of new costumes to come! 

Sunday, November 16, 2014: Day 685: Lizzie Watches Her Vlogs

And for a second bonus post, I had to include this fun post I did in combination with my Twitter back in November. I really don't watch my vlogs often once they're edited and posted to YouTube, but I definitely think this will be happening again in the future. After all, watching all my vlogs is basically like watching a really long, really weird movie, so why not!?! 

So there you have it...the second half of 2014. It's honestly been a really great year, but guess what? I get to save all that mushy stuff for the last post of the year. Big announcements are coming, and I couldn't be more excited! Day 668: Melvin

Meet Melvin, he's our dorm room gerbil.

As you can see, Melvin really likes his costumes. No, he's not a real gerbil. We're not allowed to have anything other than fish in the dorms, but you know what? We wanted a gerbil, because gerbils bring endless joy. So we got one...sort of. I was in charge of finding us a gerbil, and I eventually came across Melvin, who's just super adorable. Then for some reason I suggested the name Melvin and it stuck. So now we have our pet gerbil. 

Somewhere along the line we also decided that he should dress up for Halloween, so Melvin and I got to work. First he was Indiana Jones, as you can see, with his little hat and everything. 

Then Melvin was Hook, because of course that was going to happen. This is actually my favorite, not because he's Hook, but because of the pirate ship. It just turned out really well. 

Then, in what became a super ironic move, Melvin was the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Funny because he's a gerbil, not a mouse, two, because Rumple is doing some weird stuff with that Sorcerer's hat on Once and third because the day after he changed into that costume, they announced the hat was coming down at Hollywood Studios. Odd, right? 

And now, to round things out, Melvin is going to Disney World! Don't worry though, He'll have other costumes coming in the coming weeks, especially as we get closer to Christmas. He even has his own little closet on my shelf where all his hats are stored. It's adorable.

Day 663: Alexander and the...

From time to time I do actually get to a movie theater to see a movie, believe it or not. Honestly, I'm fairly certain that the last film I actually saw at the movie theater was Saving Mr. Banks, and we all know that I saw that in like...December. It was definitely either that or Frozen. Regardless, it's been a REALLY long time since I saw anything there.

But for once I DID go to the theater, where I caught a showing of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. I can never get that title right (and the only reason I did just now was because I looked it up), but I have to say that it was a pretty good movie. I mean, it wasn't exceptionally good, but it wasn't bad either. It was just...entertaining, as a movie should be.

What really freaked me out, however, was the apparent fact that I was meant to see this movie. And by "meant" to see this movie, I mean I was literally meant to see this movie. There were so many little references to my life that are just sort of...creepy to say the least. I mean, generally we find one little reference to our lives that doesn't make sense within a movie. Like a moment where a character says something that is like an inside joke we have with our friends, one of those kinds of things. But I didn't think it was possible for this many references to my life to appear within one movie.

First there was the yellow bug. I see these things everywhere and just kind of get used to it, although I still laughed a bit. But then the pirate jokes started. PIRATE JOKES. Because you know...Peter Pan...and Captain Hook...and Pirate Blouses. That's just how these things work I guess. There was also a marching band, because there just has to be one of those. And Dick Van Dyke was in the movie, odd because literally the night before I watched Mary Poppins with one of my friends, who'd never seen the film before. Oh, and one of the actors (the guy who plays the older brother), was recently on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which just so happens to be one of the TV shows I love and adore.

But the creepiest thing? Melvin. There's a guinea pig named Melvin in the movie, and of all the names in the entire world to choose for the rodent, they picked Melvin? I have a Melvin in my life, who's also a rodent...or so to speak. We're not allowed to have pets in our dorms (aside from fish), so we have Melvin, our "pet gerbil." I won't go into too much detail about Melvin since he gets his own blog post later this week, but really? Melvin.

And therefore, I was absolutely meant to see this movie, which, as I said, was actually pretty good, even if I can't ever remember what the actual name of it is.
