Day 1223: Responsibilities

The semester is rounding out, and that means that my usually busy schedule is almost worse than normal. Of course, everything decided to fall on the weekend before finals, much to the dismay of myself and many of my fellow SNC students, since our jazz band played for the Dean's Reception, which was held in the library. Not the best idea, really. We did have fun with it though, playing some of our favorite tunes and checking Yik Yak every few minutes to see who was complaining about us being there. It was a nice break from all the studying though!

It also happened to be State Solo and Ensemble, which put me going back and forth between SNC and another nearby college campus to hear my brother and other members of the Seymour High School Band perform for state competition. I think I drove more than I really needed to for one weekend, especially right before finals, but it did give me a chance to listen to Finding Nemo the Musical, which I just found the soundtrack for on Spotify!

All in all, life at the end of a semester of college is pretty boring apparently. There's not really time to work on the blog, trips are usually still pretty far away, and most of the day is spent reading textbooks that maybe should have been read earlier in the semester.

And that's about it. Responsibilities have kept me pretty busy lately, so there isn't much Disney to report. It's too bad really, because everyone can always use more Disney in their life!

Day 1021: Study All Day, Study All Night

Remember when I said, just a few blog posts ago, that I was going to actually keep up with Everyday Disney and start making up posts? Well here I am a few weeks later, still absolutely ridiculously far behind...although the fact that I'm here now is a good sign. After all, once I get a few posts done, I'm more likely to continue blogging until we're caught up.

However, to give you an idea of why I'm so far behind (and why I'm writing this blog post from October in December), let's take a look at some of the stuff I'm up to this semester, and since I made this awesome graphic for a blog for one of my classes, let's bring it back!

What you see above is a basic breakdown of where I spend my time each week, but to be completely honest, this isn't anything close to what I'm actually spending on things. It's actually been a pretty hot topic around here lately...about who spends the most time on work, and aside from chats with my roommate and five minute breaks in the music lobby, I spend a ridiculous amount of my time working on things. 

This semester I'm taking 23 credits, which means I have four, four credit classes (one for each of my majors and two gen-eds), two, two credit classes, and three ensembles, all of which I'm auditing. In addition, there's performances to go to, I had a recital this semester, I have two jobs, I'm playing in a Christmas Cantata this year, and the list just goes on and on and on and on and on...

However, I have been having some fun working on another blog, which is new for me. I'm so comfortable here on Everyday Disney because I've been doing it for so long, so writing for another blog seems kind of weird at this point. For my Literary Theory and Writing Course, which is kind of a big part of your English Degree here at SNC, we have to write six papers, all on different theories, and in addition, we have to maintain and create a website portfolio - one that features a blog. 

Being my usual ambitious self, I decided that I was going to make graphics for every blog post, so just to give you an idea of some of the topics I've been working on that you probably wouldn't find on Everyday Disney, here's some of those graphics: 

I'll be pretty happy when the semester is over and I can move onto other projects, like band trip videos and YouTube videos and Everyday Disney things.

And then, all of a sudden, it'll be next semester.

Day 1017: Procrastination

Now that you've spent a bunch of time watching videos of kittens reenacting Disney movies and laughed at Disney Memes featuring Grumpy Cat, what other ways to procrastinate are there? Since we're Disney fans, you have to do it the Disney way too...so here are a few suggestions:

Alright, even if you're not that extreme, you can definitely spend a good amount of time planning your very own perfect Disney vacation.

Your roommates won't get frustrated with you singing Let It Go at the top of your lungs, will they?

Reorganize Your Disney Collection

There just has to be a better way for all your Disney stuff to fit on that shelf.

Day 842: Stressed Out

Finals are only a few weeks away, and that means that there's a lot of work left between now and then that has to get done. With a concert coming up this weekend, a music analysis due next week, a final paper to write for the Friday after and then finals to study for in addition to preparing a solo and scales for Barrier Juries, things are getting pretty crazy. It's the reason the blog gets behind from time to time, and it's also the reason that I find myself and my fellow classmates more stressed out than ever.

However, there is a silver lining. With so little time left in the semester, it also means that there's only a short time left before my summer of Disney trips, and just over a month until Disney World. That means I'm pretty excited at the same time. In fact, I find that most of my daydreaming in between study sessions ends up being about one of two things: Once Upon A Time and Disney World. In addition, I've spent more time watching Disney Parks YouTube videos in the last two weeks that I think I have all year, and I've officially declared the music from the YouTube All Stars #DisneySide Videos to be my Jam, but beyond that, there are a few other things on my Disney-centered mind that help ease some of the stress when I need a break from getting frustrated with my saxophone.

Today I stumbled across this video in my searches and I realized how excited I am to be staying at Wilderness Lodge for the first time in June! We were originally going to stay there in January, but when we added people on we moved to a bigger room over at Saratoga Springs, another resort I hadn't stayed at previous to the trip. It all worked out well, but when mom announced we were staying at Wilderness Lodge in June after all, I got pretty excited. You guys have no idea how many pictures I'm going to take.

I've also spent a lot of time recently trying to figure out what I want to wear when I'm in the Parks this summer. I know, this sounds ridiculous to most, but I've explained this before. DisneyBounding and looking good, even on my vacations, is important to me, mostly due to the fact that I need to make up for all those pictures I avoided as a child...or rather, the pictures I'd like to replace from those awkward years. Now that I'm comfortable and happy taking pictures, I want to look good in them so I can treasure them for years to come! However, quite a bit of planning goes into these things. There are already things in the works for DisneyBounds with one of my friends out in California, and when it comes to hot and humid Florida, I've got to think about what will both look good and keep me cool. Think me crazy if you want, but I'm going to just keep planning. 

Of course, there's plenty of other things to plan, little things like a new bag for traveling, what else I need to pack, when to make my packing list, what I want to eat and so on and so forth. When paired with a bunch of Once Upon A Time it keeps me pretty calm...or at least calm enough to get back to work on that Music Analysis. Speaking of which...

Day 706: Finals Are Rough

If you haven't figured it out yet, finals took quite the toll on me this semester, causing me to end up around 3 weeks behind in blog posts. However, I'm slowly making them all back up, and the interesting thing that happened this time is I actually ended up with topics for just about every day I missed. Maybe it's because of the spreadsheet I now have that helps me keep track of all the blog posts, or maybe it's simply because I figured that the last time I got really far behind and didn't note down topics I ended up really frustrated, but either way, here I am.

If case you were wondering, I ended up doing very well on my finals. All As except for two ABs. Of course, those ABs aren't even that bad when you consider the fact that I was 99% sure one of them was going to be a BC, but I can definitely deal with AB. For sure. 

The question is, what got me through finals week this year? Last year I shared the Hook study memes, which, as I mentioned in a blog post I just wrote tonight, ended up inspiring the Door of Encouragement in our dorm room. But hey, just for the fun of it, let's share them all again:

Day 703: The Door of Encouragement

College is hard, but I'm sure most of you already knew that. Granted, I get significantly more sleep in college than I ever did in High School, and I definitely eat better and I'm probably just healthier in general, but the homework? The homework is definitely harder. Which is why my roommates and I need encouragement.

Of course, we have little Melvin to keep us company, sitting in between my desk and Ashley's desk, but as motivational as Melvin is, we need some other motivation too. Actually, it all started with one very specific picture:

It's in a frame and sits on one of my shelves, and so the rest of my roommates were kind of jealous of my extremely awesome study motivation, so we found/made some for them: 

Don't ask. 

Anyways, even before that occurred, we had another idea. We love the television show Chuck in our room, and we all love the character Casey, so one night, when we were listening to our favorite relaxation song, Hang On Little Tomato, I was hit with an idea. A motivation board. And I had the perfect place to put it. The front door of our room is giant and green and a perfect spot for some motivation. And so, the door became one of encouragement. 

Every few weeks, something new will appear on the door. We started out with Hang On Little Tomato and the "Keep Studying" Poster with Chuck's Casey, as well as the "Tiny Potato," and just went from there. Lots of things have been added, and I'm excited about the fact that there's already a few motivational posters to find a home on the door when we get back from Holiday break.

The door definitely keeps us going through the hard days, and will be added to in the future. Maybe I'll have to do another post at the end of the year when the door is completely filled! Regardless, the things that Captain Hook starts in our room. It get crazier with each passing day, but we love it.

Day 342: Finals Week

Ok, so technically it's long AFTER finals week now (or at least a week since it began technically), but that doesn't mean that I don't have to make up these blog posts, and it doesn't mean that there aren't still people out there who need inspiration to get through THEIR finals week. I mean, just because my college finished finals a week before everyone else doesn't mean that everyone else is done with their own.

So when I was on Tumblr the other day, trying to find comfort in the possibility that CaptainSwan might not happen, I came across these gems. I laughed for a good few minutes, and just had to send them to my best friend...and then made the split second decision that I'd make a blog post just on these things...and not just because one of my friends will love these to death.

And my personal favorite...

Seriously though, these like made my life. And don't worry, I've got another set waiting for the second round of finals coming up in the spring at the end of second semester...although those are a different character. You'll just have to wait and find out who though!

Day 240: In the Library

You know what's interesting and great about college? The fact that I can go and sit in a legitimate library, with my chai tea and do my homework. Now, if you're smart you'll point out that right now I'm not doing homework at all, but am instead blogging, and you'd be right, but it just felt like time for a break.

But you know what sucks about college? The fact that you have to leave so much behind. I mean, it's this time that will probably end up being the best years of your life, and you're finally free from the confines of your house, and I absolutely love college, I really do. There are so many things I love. But at the same time, back home, I can't help but feel I'm already being replaced.

I guess I knew life would go on without me, and it's something I'll have to eventually accept. It's just like how when I was sitting on the top of Bay Lake Tower the morning of my departure, I couldn't help but think about how life will continue to go on there. Even after I've left, the monorail will continue to run and everything, and that's how I related this, even though I'm pretty sure I've discussed this concept before.

Like it's not that people have forgotten me, since in reality they probably haven't, but to me, everything they say or do is like a knife in my heart. Like they'll talk about stuff going on, and I'll be like "yeah. I know. I was there two days ago." I've been gone for two days and already it seems to me like they're doing all of these things without me. Things I never got to do and will never get to do. That part of my life is gone...but I really REALLY miss it.

In fact, I think I miss it as much as I miss Disney.
