Day 621: The Cold Always Bothered Me Anyway

I love Frozen...I do. I really, really do. It's a great film and I know every word to every song and watch it probably at least once every other month. Plus it's coming to OUAT, which is reason enough for me to be a bit obsessed with it at the moment. But if there's one thing I want, it's for FROZEN TO GET OUT OF EPCOT.

Malestrom hasn't been super popular in years, and I fear it's gotten even less popular since Fastpass Plus appeared. That doesn't mean that I don't love the attraction though. No, it's not my favorite by any means, but it's as much a part of Epcot as anything else and I just need it to stay the way it is. 

Maybe this means I'm not good with change, and to be 100% honest that's probably pretty darn true, but can't Frozen just stay somewhere else? Like Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom. It doesn't belong in Epcot. I mean, remember back when Anna and Elsa were meeting in Norway and things were crazy? It was absolutely awful and there was a huge line and it just took away from the entire pavilion. 

Or possibly this is stemming off the fact that they're getting rid of the various music groups around World Showcase and replacing them with who knows what. Maybe it's because Magic Kingdom has gone through how many years of renovations and it's always something new and nothing is ever completely done. It could be the extremely short notice of closing, meaning that most of us will never ever ride Malestrom one more time, and I can't be more thankful that I videoed it on a recent trip so I at least have something. 

And maybe, just maybe, it's because Frozen is taking over the world. 

As I said not even a couple of minutes ago, I love Frozen, but I just don't feel like Epcot is the place for it. I'm all for celebrating the places that inspired these films, I really am, and I think it will bring a lot of new interest to Norway, but won't it cause a bottleneck around World Showcase? It's going to bring Epcot attendance up and offer a brand new popular attraction, which is also great, but is also a bit of an issue because there AREN'T a lot of attractions and what happens when the line for a new Frozen attraction has a four hour line and people are disappointed about that? Bad things. That's what. 

In general though, I think it's because Disney really has to step it up for me this time. I was severely disappointed with Ariel when it opened first in Disneyland and then was brought to WDW. It was missing something and focused just a little too much on the songs. I'm terrified the same thing is going to happen to Frozen. Are they going to focus too much on Let It Go and not enough on the relationship between the sisters? That's what this is going to boil down to, if they can pull a new Princess ride off, especially someplace where a Princess Attraction has no place being. 

Are you happy about Malestrom? Ready for more Frozen? Or should they just "Let it go?"

Day 611: Making Frozen

Very rarely does a Disney movie become a worldwide phenomenon. In fact, there's not a time in my entire life that I can remember an animated film taking off like Frozen did in the past year. Gosh, it hasn't even BEEN a year and yet they're making a new short, have Frozen On Ice starting, Anna and Elsa are coming to Once Upon A Time and they've basically taken over the parks. And let's not forget the never-ending four hour line to meet Anna and Elsa. This film is big, and last night one improtant question was answered: how did it get that way?

My mom texted me last night asking if I was indeed watching the Making of Frozen special on ABC, and for the past couple of weeks, every time I come home my Dad asks me if I was planning on watching it. OF COURSE I'm watching the Making of Frozen special...there's a sneak peek for Once!

Maybe I need to get my priorities straightened out...or maybe not, but the special itself was absolutely wonderful. Megan had to laugh at me because I was sitting in the back room on the floor in front of the TV, and there was a perfectly good futon right there behind me, as empty as can be. But I was just so excited about all the Frozen, and let's be honest, our carpet is just as comfortable as the futon. I sit on the floor all the time, like when my roommates and I watch Chuck.

Anyway, the Frozen special offered a lot of insight into the film itself and how it was created, which isn't something we see all the time. Animation is a huge project, and a lot of people don't realize the time and careful work that goes into something like Frozen. The two things that really impressed me? The fact that it took nine months to animate the building of the castle during Let It Go and that the composers wrote Let It Go in around two days. That's crazy to me, as a music major, because I spend FOREVER trying to write the simplest piece of music. It takes forever, so to be able to write an Oscar winning song in two days is amazing.

And then there was the promo for Once, which I had pretty much already seen but makes me just as excited as ever for the show to return in just a few weeks (that's crazy since we've been waiting months now)! Plus there's going to be the new Frozen short coming out this next spring, which sounds like it shall be amazing. Because who doesn't want more Frozen in their life?

Then again, pretty sure we're all ready to get Let It Go out of our heads.

Day 591: Kids from Wisconsin

Tonight, or rather a few nights ago, I had the pleasure of heading to one of my favorite summer shows: Kids from Wisconsin. I saw the group a couple years ago when I went with my Camp and absolutely LOVED IT, so when one of my college friends became a part of the group this year, I was more than excited to go see it.

For those of you who aren't from Wisconsin or don't know what Kids from Wisconsin is, it's a group of basically college age kids who tour around our state every summer to perform a complete show filled with music of all kinds. There's 20 singers and then a band that backs them up (Go Jessica on Piano!!!), and they perform literally everything from musicals to jazz to current popular music.

So you can bet that there's always a couple of Disney moments in the show.

This year, and by far my favorite part of the show, they performed their today's hits section, which of course had to feature Let It Go from Frozen, because seriously, that song is everywhere. I think I've had the lyrics memorized since November or so and despite the fact that I do love Tangled more, I have a Frozen dress and am just totally pumped for the addition on OUAT.

But the Disney didn't end there.

Later on they were doing a tribute to the Tony's, featuring songs that were nominated or won there, and you can't have a musical montage without a little Mary Poppins and Newsies.

It's funny, actually. My roommate from this last year loved Newsies, or rather, she loves Newsies, and at some point during the school year I watched it for myself. Now, I don't really know all the words or anything, but I do love that musical, and now I have Megan hooked on it too. So from one Megan to another, the musicals go.

Seriously though, although their tour is pretty much over for this summer, if you ever have a chance to go see Kids from Wisconsin, DO IT! It's sooooo worth it because they're one of the best musical groups I've seen, and it's different every single year!

Day 580: Sing-A-Long!

A few days ago, one of my friends introduced me to something that I missed several months ago, the GMA Frozen Sing-Along. It was sort of hard for me to watch, simply because I was still at home with limited data and internet, plus people kept interrupting me, but I did get to watch it, and boy is it worth it.

Ashley, who introduced it to me, always comments on the fact that gosh, Disney has affected so many people, and she's very right. Disney has it's way of reaching out to millions of people, and not just children. I think, on some level, we were all affected by Frozen. I know I was, despite the fact that it isn't my favorite Disney movie by a long shot. But that's ok, because it did it's job. It was successful, and we couldn't be more thankful.

So here's GMA's Epic Frozen Sing-a-long, Live!

Did I sing-a-long the first time I watched? You bet I did, although as I watch it now I'm not, simply because it would be a bit weird if I just broke out into song in my dorm room while we're all working. I do still have a smile on my face though. And maybe I'm tearing up a little bit. 

The simple fact that for a few minutes people all over the country could gather together to sing a Disney song is amazing. I wish it happened more often. 

And maybe it should.

Day 428: Frozen is an Open Door

It hasn't even been a month since my last YouTube video post, which was Let It Parody, but there are just so many wonderful Frozen parodies out there right now that I couldn't NOT include this! Plus, with Frozen passing the $1 billion mark in the box office (second animated film to do so, seventh $1 billion film for Disney, and the first film in four years to stay in the box office top 10 for all 14 weeks of its theater run), PLUS those Oscars the other night, gosh! This is just great!

So here are some more of my favorite Frozen themed videos on YouTube! And boy are there a lot of them! Never before have I done not just one but TWO YouTube video posts on ONE FILM! Just goes to show how brilliant Frozen is!

Google Translate "Let It Go"

This viral video has started a whole new trend on YouTube, putting things into Google Translate. This parody is hilarious, plus she's doing more (there's already one for "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid too!). I really don't think she should "give up" on this idea! 

Let It Go & Vivaldi's Winter - The Piano Guys

It can't be a parody party without The Piano Guys! Seriously these people are like half the reason I want to learn how to play Cello, and one just can't go on YouTube without seeing at least one of their spectacular parodies. My personal favorite? Cello Wars. 

Frozen - A Musical

Did you really think this wouldn't happen? AVbyte does it again, this time featuring Elsa with the other Disney Princesses! I've shared their other Princess Musicals before too, and while the original is still my favorite, it's kind of hard not to like this! 

When It's NOT OKAY to Sing "Let it Go"

Shovell sent me this one and it's just hilarious. I mean, while there are a lot of times in life when we should "let things go" there are also a lot of times when letting go is just a really, really bad idea. Warning, this video may produce some feels. 

Let It Go - Alex Boye

My friend Jessica would be furious if I didn't include this one, because this parody is her favorite of all the Frozen ones out there. If you DO follow Piano Guys, you'll remember Alex Boye from their "Paradise" video a while back, but this one seriously does blow most other parodies of Let it Go away. I mean, with 22+ million videos, who can argue? 

Let it Go - Jimmy Fallon, Idina Menzel & The Roots

It's not really a secret anymore that this happened last night, and it was awesome. Plus, Idina Menzel is awesome. Just...awesome. I think this is probably my favorite of the parodies so far...then again it DOES have Idina in it so it's like a half parody and I personally love the original the best...sooooo....yeah. 

That's about it in this round though. Gosh, that brings us up to like 10 Frozen videos already. 10! Who knows what will happen next, because I'm sure these videos won't stop, not with everything going on and the DVD release just weeks away!

I am a huge fan of the Lizzie Bennett Diaries AND MrCheezyPop, so this is like the best video ever. I was originally watching it in the music lobby with my earbuds in so I couldn't laugh because I would be laughing to silence, so it was really hard to not laugh out loud.

I actually really do love Pentatonix, so when this came out I was like "OH MY GOSH!" Of course it made it onto this blog post. I mean, how could it not? These people are awesome and hilarious and FROZEN!!!!!

Day 377: Frozen...Again

Once and a while there comes a Disney movie that I must take my friends to see in Theaters, even if I've already seen it once. Tangled was one of those films, and Frozen has become another. It's a must see for everyone. So finally, after what seems like an eternity (a month and a half really), my best friend saw Frozen. And that means that now she understands all the great Frozen jokes and songs that are going around, especially on our college campus, which seems to be filled with Frozen loving people (especially the music building, where we regularly sing duets of the music).

So since I got to see Frozen again, I figured I would share another video from MrCheezyPop, only this time it's about songs from Frozen. It might just be because this video pretty much made my day though. =)

Personally, my favorite song is "Love is an Open Door," but "Let it Go" is right behind it for sure. And as for the rest of the songs, I love them all...and for the most part can sing them already (actually I could sing them a month ago. Not good on my vocal chords, but certainly fun!) So singing the duet was just awesome. I don't care (SPOILER) if Hans is a jerk...I still love the song!

And maybe someday, if I have to write another arrangement for music theory, I'm going to write an arrangement of Frozen. Actually, I'll probably do that either way just because I love this music so much.

Day 359: Merry Christmas!

So maybe it's not really Christmas when I'm writing this, but in fact half a week after Christmas. That's alright though, I suppose. It's never really too late to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Plus, it's not yet the new year, so really we're still in the spirit of the season. Christmas Commercials are still on TV, Christmas movies still on Netflix, Christmas Trees and lights still up in and on houses, Christmas Songs still being played here and there. Yeah, it still counts.

But let's take a minute to reflect on what was most certainly my favorite part of Christmas this year: The Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade. It was a couple days before Christmas when I found out that Neil Patrick Harris was Co-Hosting this year, although I knew earlier this month that he was filming for it. But when I did find that out, I knew that it was sure to be a great parade. I mean, it started out with this music number, after all:

Yeah, I still have that song stuck in my head. And I seriously loved how the entire time it was like Neil vs. Darth Vader: who really does need to turn his Dark Side into a Disney Side. ;)

Plus, who wasn't freaking out when Demi Lovato Sang "Let it Go?" I know I was. Once I got over Neil at the beginning that was. I mean, the whole talking to Walt thing. That was amazing. 

Neil....PLEASE COME BACK NEXT YEAR. Like seriously. I'll just be here singing along with this song...since I have it playing as I write this. And I know all the words. Pretty sure it's my new favorite Christmas song. 

And boy I can't wait for the day that I work at Disney and can see this live. I'm excited already.
