Day 1030: In the Air

On the old "A Day at Magic Kingdom" VHS that I have, there's this part where they showcase a couple of old hot air balloons, and honestly, I didn't know much about them aside from the fact that I really, really wanted to go on one. In our world today, you can certainly book a trip on the Characters in Flight Hot Air Balloon that calls Disney Springs home, but the balloons in the video that I grew up with are a bit more unique.

I happened to see the following picture on Tumblr, which got me thinking about the balloons, and now I can't really stop thinking about them.

While I have to admit that the giant Mickey and Donald heads as balloons weirds me out just a little bit, they are still pretty awesome, and way cooler than any hot air balloon I've ever seen in real life. Of course, there's also these two:

I have no idea how such balloons can be made, but I sure like them, especially the Spaceship Earth one. Obviously it had to have flown in my lifetime because the Epcot portion of the decor wasn't put on until after 2000, and I remember very well when that 2000 was put on, and when it was changed to the Epcot that stayed until a number of years ago. The castle is pretty awesome too though, don't you think?

I'd certainly be interested in hearing more about these balloons, so if you have any information I'd be happy to hear about it, but otherwise let me know in the comments below what kind of Disney hot air balloon you would want to fly in. Would it be a Spaceship Earth balloon like me or something entirely different?

Have a magical day!

Day 784: A Package Has Arrived

If getting Disney mail at home is one of the best things ever, then imagine getting Disney mail at school. You might remember a couple of weeks ago when I bought my Epcot Starbucks You Are Here mug, and if you don't remember it, you can read that post HERE, but there's just one small problem.

That mug is now worth at least $200, although most on ebay are currently going for closer to $300-400. I love my mug, I really do, and I have no intention of selling it, but as Megan said the other day, it's kind of nerve wrecking washing a $300 mug that's not even yours, and trust me, it's just as bad when it IS yours. Therefore, there was only one solution to this problem.

I had to get another mug.

Now, I'm not talking about another Epcot mug (are you crazy?), but lucky for me, there are several other mugs out there, and since I already had one shipped to my house, it wasn't hard to find another to be sent my way. Since I couldn't find a decently priced Magic Kingdom mug, I instead opted for the Hollywood Studios mug, which is just plain adorable, and I'm loving the fact that the Sorcerer's Hat is no where to be found. I guess my plan is working because since buying this new one, I've used it twice and the Epcot mug sits safe and sound on my shelf. I feel bad forcing it to live a life on the shelf, but it's a collectors item now, and considering the rest of my Epcot/Spaceship Earth collection, it's now one of the most important pieces.

But that's not all that came in the mail. On a completely different blog post, which you can read HERE, I lamented about the one thing I forgot to buy while at Disney: Tsum Tsum. But since I have a job now, a real job, I wanted to celebrate in a small fashion. Plus, my new desk will need a little bit of decorating once I have things cleaned off more than they are at the current moment. So I put in an order to the Disney store and by the end of opening all the packages I got from the mail center, my life looked something like this:

Oh yes, it was a very good day for mail indeed. I also realized that I ordered the Tsum Tsum perfectly so they stack by film. Three 101 Dalmatians themed ones on the bottom row, with Cruella in the middle of the two pups, two from Toy Story on top of that, and Donald to round out the tower. I swear I didn't plan it that way, but I also didn't plan falling absolutely in love with these little guys. I don't think my roommates planned that either.

Have a magical day!

Day 608: On the iPhone

I was coming up with topics to fill the empty blog post spots and it occurred to me that I've never even blogged about this one, which is actually quite weird considering it's probably the most Disney thing in my everyday life. My iPhone itself is a constant reminder of Disney, in more ways than one really.

For starters, you have the case itself, which changes from time to time. My personal favorite so far has been my Donald Duck phone case, which is getting a bit worse for wear at the moment due to my constant dropping of my phone, but I love it all the same. It's the one phone case I knew I wanted before I even had an iPhone, and it was the first Disney case I got once I had one. In fact, I love this case so much I've bought it three times over, just because they wear out or break (after all that constant dropping) or you get a different model and the case no longer works. It's a struggle.

And then I have my lock screen, which has been the same since not long after my March trip. Of all the pictures from that trip, this has to be my favorite, and that probably goes for pictures of my brother and I too. It was one of those random pictures that we didn't really intend to take at all. I remember meeting back up with my brother that night in Magic Kingdom and walking super slowly thorough all the stores simply because we didn't want to leave (and we really wanted to see the Kiss Goodnight because that's how we roll). So as we walked down main street and saw a photopass photographer, I suggested that we get our picture taken, not really thinking much else of it. So we did, and now it's one of my all time favorite pictures. I have it framed on my desk too and just can't get myself to change it on my lock screen. It works perfectly. Actually, I said that when we go in January I'm going to change it, only this time there will be four of us instead of two.

Finally, there's the home screen. I think we all change this often enough, as I recently did to this picture I shared on Instagram not too long ago. It's kind of hard to see, but you can probably tell that it's Cinderella Castle. It was just a really colorful picture and I tested it and liked how it looked, so it stayed. While the home screen picture changes every so often, it's pretty much always Disney, except for that rare time when it's my cat...

And that's probably the #1 way Disney works it's way into my life. Anyone who finds my phone will obviously know that I love Disney, especially since you don't even have to turn it on to figure that out, but I get a lot of compliments on that case and I love it. Then again, if you really know me at all or follow me on any social media it shouldn't be a question of whether or not I love Disney because I obviously do.

I mean...I'm writing this for goodness sake.

Have a magical day!

Day 605: MathMagic Land

Sometimes Disney DOES pop up in class, in a full-on "We're watching a Disney thing" kind of way. Today was one of those days, when the ever popular Donald Duck in MathMagic Land came up in Theory class...and yes we watched the beginning.

If you've never seen DDiMML before, I'm sure you're wondering about how math and music fit together, and you see, that's the exact point of the entire cartoon! Donald learns all about how math sneaks its way into our daily lives, whether we like it or not (I'm most certainly more on the "I don't like math side of things"). And guess what!?! You can watch the whole thing, RIGHT NOW! (Provided you have time to be watching the whole thing and don't have other homework to do like I do).

This isn't the first time Donald has shown up with his math magic in class though. A number of years ago (gosh..Freshman year of High School actually), we watched this in Geometry class, although instead of actually being for a reason like this time I'm pretty sure it was just because we had an extra day and hey, Geometry is math, right?

Now I just need to remember to find a straw so I can do that thing Dr. Henson told us about today so we can practice these theories in real life and annoy our friends with little plastic straw flutes.

Have a magical day!

Day 505: Which Disney Side?

2014 is the year of the Disney Side. Alright, so that's partially a lie already because in reality it started at the end of last year, but for the most part, right now it's a big thing. Later this week we have the 24 hour Disney Side party, and there's been stuff going around for months when it comes to the campaign as a whole. The question is, what really is our Disney Side? I mean, it's different for everyone.

At SNC this year, it's funny how you talk to people and when you mention Disney they just light up. "I LOVE DISNEY" they go and proceed to talk about their favorite movie and how they've watched it HUNDREDS of times. Now, while I may indeed have watched Lady & The Tramp, Beauty and the Beast and Tangled a ton of times, that's not the kind of Disney fan I am. I'm most certainly more of a parks person. So ask me a question about Aladdin or The Little Mermaid and I'll Flounder (hahahaha yes pun intended) around like any other person, but ask me something about the parks and I'll give you an hour lecture on the subject at hand.

But from there, our Disney sides get even more specific. Luckily, Disney has a quiz, or multiple quizzes I suppose, to tell us what kind of Disney Side we have, such as THIS QUIZ!

I actually took this quiz and THEN decided to do a blog post on it, so I already have my answer: "Disney Style. You have it. Yours is of the classic variety: you've been a Disney fan from the beginning, and you appreciate the dedication and idealism that goes into creating Disney magic. You probably stick to the traditional Mousketeers Mickey Ears when you're at Disneyland or Walt Disney World, and love nothing better than a classic Mickey Watch."

Gosh do they have me pegged, as I wear yet another of my Disney scarves and subconsciously sit wishing I had a Donald or Mickey watch. Maybe then I'd actually be able to know what time it is instead of checking my phone every five minutes. Well, then I'd just check my watch every five minutes, but that's beside the point.

So what's your Disney side? And I know there are other quizzes out there, so maybe we'll take one of those in the future. I mean, if you really think about it, we all have our own unique combination of Disney, and that's what's makes us all so special (and awesome).

Have a magical day!

Day 353: Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas

I love movies, obviously, and there are always Disney movies to watch at Christmas Time. So I watched some the other day, and of course one of them was Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas.

Now, I watched Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas all the time as a kid, and to be honest I did love it. Still do...only I can't really find my copy of it. It has to be somewhere around this house, I just can't figure out where it is. Sounds like I'll need to take to Netflix to watch that one. But this isn't about Once Upon a Christmas, this is about TWICE Upon a Christmas.

The film is made up of several short cartoons based around the different popular Disney characters in Toontown. So that means Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, Goofy and Daisy, along with the various other family members that make the troop complete. And each one teaches a lesson about the holidays. So, for instance, Donald learns about what it means to be in the spirit of the season, and Mickey learns that it isn't about how many Christmas lights you have, but it's about the people you spend your holiday with.

I think my favorite of the little shorts is probably the one with Mickey and Pluto, but Minnie and Daisy comes in as a close second. I've always been a fan of Goofy and his son Max, but that one just doesn't do it for me. I liked the one on Once Upon a Christmas better. I guess overall I liked the original one better to be honest. I mean, I've always loved the story between Mickey and Minnie in that one too. It was just adorable.

So that pretty much sums this up I suppose. I watched this a week ago now, and a lot has gone on, so my memory on it is a little fuzzy (plus I've only got a ton of blog posts to write...goodness gracious me). And I'm waiting to start my next Christmas movie, although technically it's not really a movie I suppose. But you'll find out all about that in a later post!

Here's today's Disney History: 1843: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is first published in London by Chapman & Hall. Illustrated by John Leech, the story tells of sour and stingy Ebeneezer Scrooge's ideological, ethical and emotional transformation resulting from supernatural visits from Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come.

Day 251: Shopping

One of my initial concepts for this blog, and something I'm sure I've talked about before, was to talk about things that are, physically Disney, that popped up in my life. This means that it's not a reference to something, or something at Walt Disney World. No pictures on Instagram or anything like that. Nope, the idea was that it has to be something that says Disney on it. The idea was that it has to be something that is, or says Disney on it.

Well, yesterday was one of those days where that original idea came into play. After picking up a couple of my friends from college and going out for Froyo, I returned them to college and, instead of going back home as I intended, I headed towards Green Bay. Why? Well, it all started with a comment from one of my friends. I had been at home earlier in the morning, obviously, and didn't exactly have the right pair of socks to wear the shoes I had brought home, so instead I just threw on my boots. I also had like a black tank top on, and apparently when you put it all together I was almost dressed as Emma Swan.

Now, this goes even further back to over a year ago, when I was shopping with my best friend and I found a red leather jacket that seriously did remind me of Emma, and I didn't buy it. I sure regret that. So since I was in Green Bay, I started a search for a leather jacket, as well as for a pair of brown boots, but that's not what I came out with. In fact, I found neither, but I did find a few other things!

First, I found a Hakuna Matata shirt that I just pretty much had to buy. It's adorable, and I got it at target. I tried to find a picture of one so I could show it on here, but I didn't find one sadly. The same goes for the Mickey Mouse Club shirt I got at Old Navy. I looked for a picture but didn't find one. Of course, I'm too lazy to take a picture of my shirts and put it on here, but that's mostly because it's already dark in my dorm room and I don't feel like turning all the lights on for a picture.

But that's not all I got that was Disney! Today was my church's Rally Sunday, and I always work for it, for the past number of years by running the Duck Pond, a game where the kids pay a quarter and pick a duck and get a prize. It's adorable to watch the kids pick which duck they want and get one of the different prizes. And you know what one of the prizes were this year? Little Disney activity coloring books! Once everyone was finished I picked a duck of my own (ok, so maybe I had them memorized) and picked out my Disney coloring book, which I intend to color here at college when I need a break. Sounds like fun to me!

And so, those are the little bits of Disney that I found in the past couple of days. Granted, it has largely been on my mind, for obvious reasons. Only 287 days you know!

Today's #Frumpstagram post today is "Character Moment," so of course I had to choose my favorite guy, Donald, as my character for today! He is #1, after all. I mean, he told us so himself. He is pretty awesome though, and that's why he's one of my favorites. He's on my phone case too!

Here's today's Disney History: 1998: It's official...the Walt Disney World attraction Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is permanently closed. On this day work beings on Mr. Toad's home as it will become The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. One of the park's opening day attractions, it was modeled after the Disneyland attraction. Despite the ride's popularity and any protests, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride entertained guests for the very last time yesterday.

Have a magical day!

Day 213: Disney Things I'd Like to Buy

Well, when trying to figure out what to write about for today, I was on Pinterest, like I often am, and decided that one board I don't really talk about much is my Disney Store board, which is basically all of the Disney things that are awesome and that I really wish I owned. It just sounded like something I could talk about, because while there are so many Disney things I wish I owned, there are really only a few that I have currently posted on my Pinterest board.

Alright, so I'm kind of obsessed with Donald Duck. He's probably one of my favorite characters. Like, my phone case is sometimes Donald, and I love my Donald Duck Sweatshirt absolutely to death! Actually, other than that I guess there isn't a lot of stuff that I have that's Donald, but you know. That just means that there's plenty of room for more Donald!

I'll be honest with this one. If someone buys me these, I'd be so happy for like...ever. If you are a blog reader and want to send me something ever, send me these. I would kill for such shoes. I would. Ok, maybe not.

I have one question: Why do I not have this for my computer?

You can't not have Disney luggage. I guess I have some Disney luggage, but this one is seriously awesome. I would love to have these suitcases, and if I ever have to actually buy new suitcases I'm pretty sure I'll buy these or something like these. It just seems like a thing I need to do.

And finally, this. I just need this. I think we ALL need this. Just saying.

So, if you ever want to get me a gift...these are all great choices. That or anything Canadian. I love Canadian things. That might just be because I'm currently watching an ApprenticeEh vlog though.

Here's today's Disney History: 1942: Disney's 5th full length animated feature Bambi has its U.S. premiere at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Day 160: Almost There

I honestly didn't intend for this title to work or anything, but it kind of does work and reminds me of a lot of different things.

Well, today is officially less than a month until my trip to Disney World. Of course, I'm super excited, but I have to comment that it feels like I just went, which I kind of did, but I kind of didn't. It just means that the last number of months have gone by really really fast.

Anyway, I realized that the last time I went to Disney I took a lot of selfies before I went and put them on Instagram. Like everyday counting down from about 30. I was thinking about what I should do this year and I honestly don't know what I'm going to do. Doing something does sound fun though. I have an idea, but I'm not going to say what it is, but it will probably start within the next few days, especially if you follow my Instagram.

Either way, it's really exciting to say that my Disney trip is that close, and that means plenty of stuff is going on for me. I was going to make a video to practice editing using my new software today, but it just was not working for me today. But sometime in the future I may have videos on my Youtube channel. Well, I know I will at some point because of my Disney vlogs, but that's beside the point.

I'm honestly pretty tired so I guess that's about it for today, I do know that I have a pretty good post for tomorrow though! =)

Here's today's Disney History: 1934: Donald Duck makes his very first film  appearance in The Wise Little Hen, a Silly Symphony short y Walt Disney. Donald's appearance in this cartoon, as created by animator Dick Lundy, is similar to his modern look except his features are more elongated, his body plumper and his feet bigger.

Have a magical day!
