Day 1129: It Happened Again

Life works in funny ways sometimes...and often it's more ironic than we might expect too. There is a perfectly good explanation as to why I've started today's blog post with a giant picture of Josh Dallas, and it has everything to do with the autograph that's on it. Almost a year ago I received the above picture randomly in the mail, and it took me a while to figure out that it wasn't so random after all. Nope, it was actually a response to the letter I'd sent him about a year previous. In fact, I sent more than one letter...I sent one to all the main actors on Once Upon A Time, and following the picture from Josh, I figured it was all over.

I was wrong.

Today I was sitting at lunch with my roommates and friend Lauren and happened to tell them the story about how I sometimes get amazing mail from people like Josh Dallas. The topic actually came up because I was headed to the mail center to pick up a new wrist brace for my ever injured right wrist, and I checked my mailbox while I was there because I hadn't checked it since early January probably. I knew for sure that there was a certificate for the Dean's List in there, but when I opened the box and found a giant yellow envelope I was a bit thrown off. And then I noticed the name in the upper corner of the envelope: Robert Carlyle.

That's right, after almost two years, I got an autograph back from Robert Carlyle. Funny how that same paper, which I wrote them about for my fairy tales course, is now headed to a national convention, and while that weekend will mean a lot of traveling and logistic problems, getting this autograph in the mail seems like a sign that maybe, somehow, everything is going to work out just fine.

Have a magical day everyone!

Day 1020: Thor

Remember way back when? Yes, back when I told you all that I had never seen the Avengers or any of the other Marvel stuff? Well, I'm finally in the process of catching up. Since I finally saw both of the Captain America movies, Thor was next on the list, and let's be honest, there are a few things that you just knew I would end up talking about...and at the head of that list is Josh Dallas.

Let me tell you...if you put a Once Upon A Time fan in front of this movie you'd better be prepared for constant giggling and rolling on the floor. I did both of those any time he was on screen, and I kind of want to watch it all over again just for his scenes (let's be honest, I probably will). Of course, Josh is replaced by an equally amusing actor in the second film: Zachary Levi. Things are only about to get better folks.

I also have to mention that I met Thor before actually seeing his movie, and he was a pretty awesome guy. He was a bit sad that I was wearing a Cap shirt instead of a Thor shirt, but after this movie I have the feeling I need to get my hands on one of those too.

I also greatly enjoy this scene...ANOTHER!

Overall, I honestly enjoyed Thor and I look forward to watching the next one...after I go out and find it of course. I should check if it's on Netflix! (It's not).

Share some of your favorite Thor moments in the comments below!

Have a magical day!

Day 956: In the Same Building

The D23 EXPO is a spectacular place, and I almost forgot just how much I missed it in the four years between the two I've attended. My first EXPO was spent mostly with my parents, getting the lay of the land and understanding this new foreign world of conventions. But this time I was ready, and I definitely met many, MANY wonderful people!

With D23 you have to keep your eyes open 24/7 for people you just might know! In fact, as I was walking to the convention on Saturday I happened to recognize Nick Pitera as he headed the same direction! I caught up to him at the stoplight and we snapped a quick picture on the other side. I think it's safe to say my hands were shaking like they were about to fall off...

I was also lucky enough to finally meet Keith Lapinig and Peter Armado! Their High School Musical Cosplay was ON POINT and they even recognized my Emma Swan outfit for the day! They're just such delightful people and I can't express to you enough how much you need to go find them on social media!

On Saturday I happened upon some of the Thingamavlogs crew as well, and then I headed back to their meetup on Saturday because it was obviously necessary! These guys make my day. In fact, all Disney YouTubers make my day! Thank you guys for your absolutely kind comments and praise! It's because of Disney YouTubers like you that I started doing Disney videos!

But of course, I do have one Disney YouTuber that inspired me more than any other, and that's MrCheezyPop, AKA Maxwell Glick! Getting to see Max was one of the total highlights of the convention for me, as it seems there's just never enough time to talk about all things Disney! Hopefully I'll see you again soon, whether it be back at Disneyland or at my home of Walt Disney World!

I'm sure it's not hard to guess the other highlight of the convention for me though. If you don't know already, I'm a HUGE OUAT Fan, so attending the panel at the D23 EXPO was basically a dream come true. And you know what, as if it wasn't good enough being in the same room as Ginny, Lana, Adam, and Eddy, they just had to go and throw in Josh Dallas too. I was in the same room as Josh Dallas. I'm still not over it.

However, the D23 EXPO was FILLED with surprise guests all over the place. While I wasn't able to attend the live action panel (WHY DIDN'T I?!?), I CAN say that I was in the same building as Harrison Ford, which is the closest I've ever gotten ever. Additionally, I was in the same building as George Lucas, Johnny Depp, Ellen, Chris Evans, and Dick Van Dyke, and also in the same room as Disney Legends Richard Sherman and Marty Sklar, as well as the one and only Stan Lee! Add in the OUAT Cast and all the other awesome people and it makes for a really awesome weekend!

If you went to the D23 EXPO, who did you get to see, and if you weren't there, who would you WANT to see? Let me know in the comments below!

Have a magical day!

Day 912: Lucky 15: Part 1

This is one of those posts that has two parts a half year apart from one another. That's right, it's time for my bi-annual favorite post round up! When you blog once for every day of the year, you definitely have an opportunity to look back at some of the best moments in your life, and that's one of the main reasons I do this twice a year. Not only do I have an automatic blog post topic for every July 1, but I also get to sit and recall the incredible adventures I've had here on Everyday Disney!

If you want to go back and read the posts that go along with this one, you can find them at the links right below!

Saturday, January 17, 2015: Day 747: A Few More Favorites

January held a lot of great moments for me: I was on Buzzfeed, went to Disney World, started the Everyday Disney Challenge, and tons of other stuff, but ultimately I think this post has to be my favorite. My Disney Trip this past January with my friends and family was one of the greatest I've ever had, so of course I just had to pick the post with some of my favorite pictures from that trip. My all time favorite, however, is the one you see above, which was taken at Epcot right where we stood in June to watch Illuminations. It's not my favorite place to watch the show, but it definitely holds a special place in my heart now.

Friday, February 13, 2015: Day 774: Alton Brown

You don't always get to meet people on the list of people you want to meet, and that's why meeting Alton Brown just has to be on my list for the first half of the year! His show was hilarious and I loved every second of it! Now, hopefully by the time I meet Colin I'll have met enough other people to control the shaking of my face.

Friday, March 6, 2015: Day 795: The Love Triangle Theory: Volume 2

It's been a while since the first volume of the Love Triangle Theory, which states that in any love triangle situation, the two halves that meet last will end up together. Back in 2013 my examples included Han & Leia and Katniss & Peeta, but it seems to me that Once Upon A Time has it's own set of Love Triangles just waiting to support this theory. Did I have to wait for CaptainSwan to officially become a couple that seemed endgame to post the second volume? Yes. Was it worth the wait? You bet it was.

Tuesday, April 14, 2015: Day 834: Modifications

April actually held a lot of great posts as well, but this one definitely stands out as a favorite. As one of the more popular posts here on Everyday Disney as well as on the official Tumblr, it's hard to go against my own set of DisneyBound Essentials, inspired by the post from the official DisneyBound Tumblr. I DisneyBound quite frequently these days, so putting together a quick list of my own essential pieces was a ton of fun!

Thursday, May 14, 2015: Day 864: Hakuna Matata

The end of every semester of school brings a lot of different emotions, and it just so happens that we now have a whole set of characters ready to help explain those feelings! In one of a spur of the moment blog posts, I go through the five emotions of Disney/Pixar's latest feature film, Inside Out, and have them help explain just how college students like myself might be feeling as another year comes to a close.

Thursday, June 11, 2015: Day 892: Missing Frank and Shovell

It should come to no surprise that as I headed back to Walt Disney World without my friends, things certainly weren't the same. I spent a good potion of my time missing my friends, but even from states away, they managed to light up my life...with a little help from Cardboard Colin of course. I do find it entertaining that Cardboard Colin is quickly becoming my thing on Twitter. I suppose I do take a lot of selfies with a cardboard Captain Hook though...

Monday, April 20, 2015: Day 840: Worth the Wait

And for my bonus post this time I just have to go back to the day I got a random envelope in the mail and it turned out to be a signed autograph from Josh Dallas. Turns out that if you wait over a year, sometimes that wait is worth it. Talk about a Charm Attack!

There you have it! The first half of 2015 in a nutshell. Of course, if you're just joining us here at Everyday Disney, I do recommend going back through some of these posts, which are often some of my favorites and most interesting. Basically all of me wrapped up into a few posts instead of 912. I'll be back at the end of the year with a post celebrating the second half of 2015, but until then...

Have a magical day!

Day 840: Worth the Wait

Once Upon A Time...

That seems to be not only a common theme on my blog and in my life, but also how most of the greatest fairy tales start. When we read those four words, we know we're in for a tale that could have anything to do with Knights in Shining Armor and Princesses or Dragons or Trolls or Pirates and who knows what else. Well, I'm here to tell you a story, and I'm pretty sure it has little to do with anything beyond a pen, some paper and one Prince Charming.

A year ago, over a year ago actually, I was in the middle of a fairy tale class here at SNC. I wasn't going to take the class initially, but a friend convinced me and now I talk about it as my favorite class I've taken in college...or ever really. As a part of that class, we had to write a final research paper, and I set to work as early as possible. Since OUAT is my favorite TV show and this was a class on Fairy Tales, I figured it would be a fair bet that I could base my final paper around the show, or at least include it as an example somewhere. What I ended up doing, of course, went far beyond just mentioning the show, as it was a quote from Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis that set the foundation for my topic and my thesis: Hope.

Hope became really important to me that semester, especially as I set out writing letters to many of the main cast members of the show, just to see if I would get any sort of response. I kept my hopes low, of course, because the chances of any of the cast members actually getting my hand written letter and writing back were pretty slim. And as the end of the semester grew closer, I pretty much said "Oh well" and moved on. It wasn't a big deal. I had a great paper (that quoted both Colin O'Donoghue and Jennifer Morrison), I was finished with a great class and we completed another great season of OUAT.

I haven't thought about those letters in ages. Until today.

I generally check my email, which is sent directly to my phone, about a million times a day. I check it in between classes for sure, just as I did this morning on my walk back towards my dorm from French class. At SNC, when a package arrives in the mail for us that's too big for our box, they send us an email, one of which was sitting in my email folder this morning. To be honest, I was confused. Downright confused. The only thing I have coming in the mail here to SNC would be my Disney Parks Vacation Planning DVD, but that they'd probably just put in my mailbox. I shouldn't have a package. So I go and I pick it up and it's a large white envelope that says "'Please Do Not Bend" on the outside.

At this point, I have a rough idea of what might be in the envelope, mostly because of the do not bend note. It has to be an autograph or something. But who in the world would do that? Who did I make so happy that they'd send me an autograph? Who was the autograph from? Why does the handwriting on the address look so familiar? Who even has my address? Every single one of those questions ran through my mind about five times and I hurried back to my dorm room, threw my stuff across the floor and futon and quickly opened the envelope, only to find THIS in it!

That's right, on a random rainy Monday morning over a year after I mailed out the letters to the cast of OUAT, I got an autographed photo from Josh Dallas (or at least his reps). Regardless, it's signed by him, and it's definitely in response to my letter since the address on the front is mine, cut out from the envelope I sent with the letter. Words cannot express how long I was hyperventilating, half crying and full on freaking out in my dorm room as I tried to process the fact that while I almost never get mail at college, apparently when I do it's from JOSH DALLAS.

Which leaves me to wonder...where are the other letters? Have they reached the cast members just now? Did they read them? Who knows! But for now I'm going to go yell from the rooftops that I got this in the mail. It's amazing how my life has changed since a year ago when I hoped for a tweet from even the most minor cast member and now here I am with over 70 tweets, favorites and retweets, not to mention this new autograph from Prince Charming himself. Let me tell you though...when you're on the receiving end of a Charm Attack, there's nothing you can do but fangirl.

Thanks Josh! You definitely made one Oncer and Charmer extremely happy today!

Have a magical day!

Day 572: Actors & Why I Love Them

I have this new, extreme respect for actors. And honestly I've been planning this blog post for a few weeks, but now that I'm sitting here writing it, I just don't remember what I was going to say, so we'll see how this all works out.

Oh, right! I remember!

A week or so ago I spent a good amount of time filming a video, which hopefully will be done in the near future. Actually, I spend a lot of time filming videos lately, which is both good and bad. It takes enough time to film them, much less get them edited and on YouTube, but after doing a full blown shoot (although I was all by myself), I totally have some seriously respect for them.

In a matter of a few hours, I was the director, writer, actress, stunt double, driver, security and just about everything else. I had three different outfits, did my hair and makeup three different times, received two injuries, jumped off a fallen tree more times than I can honestly count and had so many takes I can't even count them all. I imagine it's a little bit easier when you have a crew behind you, meaning that you can focus more on your acting and what you're doing, but at the same time, there's still a job there, and they love what they do.

I mean, think about it. When you're an actor, you have to work with all sorts of people, often times punching them, or having them punch you, kissing each other, showcasing these fake relationships on screen and it's your job to make sure they seem real. I don't know if I could do that. And memorizing lines. Gosh, it takes me forever to get through one script for a video. It's just difficult to do.

And then, in many cases, or at least with my favorite actors, they go home and have a real life behind the scenes, and as much as I'd love to see pictures of them with their family, I pick my favorite actors and actresses on a very high standard, which is how much they keep their private life private. I don't need to know everything that's going on in their lives, although an update or picture of a dog is often times nice, just to know they're doing good. Because I wouldn't want people outside my door either.

I always say that I don't want to be famous, at least not really famous. I want to be famous on a level where I can go to meet other famous people and have a real, honest discussion with them aside from talking across a table or something, because I look up to these people, not because they're famous and bloody amazing at their jobs, but because I love how they handle the cameras and the interviews and themselves. But on the opposite side, I want to be just not-famous enough that no one cares about me and the media will, largely, leave me alone. That would be great. I like to keep my private life private, thank you very much. You can see it even in my social media usage. You don't see a lot of my family aside from my cat and my brother every once and a while. And it's going to stay that way. You don't need to know about my relationships or my family otherwise. You just don't, and I don't want to share. End of story.

Which is why I have respect for the actors I call my favorites. Take Josh and Ginny for instance. It's been how many months now and we have yet to see a real picture of Oliver. Which is great, because kids like that shouldn't be in the spotlight all the time. I know he's adorable though. I just know it.

So thank you to all the wonderful actors out there, especially those that control and keep their professional and private lives separate from one another. I respect that. If I'm ever famous, that's how I want to be, and I know I would be with you guys as role models.

Also, I need a stunt double. Filming taught me that one for sure. No more jumping off fallen trees.

Have a magical day!
